Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has declared Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a work-free day to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the creation of Bauchi State.
Bauchi was one of the states created on February 3, 1976, by the then Head of State, Yakubu Gowon.
The declaration was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, and made available to journalists in the state.
According to the statement, the public holiday applies to all categories of civil servants in both the public and private sectors across Bauchi State, with the exception of essential service providers.
Gidado explained that the work-free day is intended to enable residents to actively participate in activities marking the Golden Jubilee of the state’s creation.
The governor described the anniversary as a moment of reflection on Bauchi State’s journey over the past five decades, highlighting achievements, strengthening unity, and renewing commitment to peace, progress and good governance.
He urged residents to use the occasion to pray for the continued peace, prosperity and development of the state.
As part of activities marking the 50th anniversary, Governor Mohammed also directed all residents to plant at least one tree in commemoration of the milestone.
The tree-planting initiative, he said, is aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, combating desertification, reducing the effects of global warming and preserving the ecosystem for future generations.
The governor further called on residents to celebrate responsibly, maintain peace and order, and demonstrate values of patriotism, environmental consciousness and collective responsibility.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, good governance and policies designed to improve the welfare of citizens and strengthen institutions across the state.
While congratulating residents on the historic milestone, the governor encouraged them to actively participate in the Golden Jubilee activities to make the celebration meaningful and impactful.
Essential service providers were, however, directed to remain on duty in the interest of public safety and security.
