Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has criticised the recent altercation between social media personality VeryDarkMan and comedian Mr Jollof, describing the incident as an embarrassment.
The pair were detained by the Delta State Police Command on November 17, 2025, after engaging in a physical fight aboard a United Nigeria Airlines flight. Videos of the clash, which occurred inside the crowded aircraft circulated widely online, drawing public outrage.
Reacting in a video posted on Instagram, Basketmouth said he was stunned that the disagreement escalated into a physical fight, especially in such a confined and sensitive space.
“Like everybody else, I just saw the video of Mr Jollof and VDM fighting in a public space, not just any public place, but inside a plane,” he said. “As plane tight reach, these grown men still find space dey fight. And I asked myself, how did we get here?”
He contrasted the situation with his long-running feud with fellow comedian AY Makun, noting that despite their differences, things never descended into violence. “It never got to the point that me and him go start to exchange punches,” he added.
Basketmouth urged Nigerians, especially public figures, to choose restraint over confrontation. “How embarrassing is this? Why can’t we just live in love and peace?” he asked.
The clash between VeryDarkMan and Mr Jollof stems from a bitter dispute that escalated earlier in the year after VeryDarkMan accused Mr Jollof’s wife of infidelity involving politicians and internet fraudsters. The couple responded by filing a ₦500 million defamation suit against him.
Authorities have yet to provide further updates on the case following Monday’s detention.
