Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has described his teammate Lamine Yamal as “the best player in the world” while advising the young winger to remain calm as opponents continue to target him during matches.
Lopez made the remarks during a press conference on Monday alongside Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash with Olympiacos on Tuesday night.
“I have known Lamine since we were kids, and he is the best player in the world,” Lopez said, as quoted by Barca Universal.
“Everyone is going to talk about him, and everyone will try to target him. He has to stay calm.
He is mature in that sense, and we try to help him because he is very important. If he is doing well, the team will do well.”
The 17-year-old Yamal has been one of Barcelona’s standout performers this season, dazzling fans with his pace, creativity, and composure. His impressive displays recently earned him second place behind Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings.
Yamal is expected to play a key role as Barcelona aim to extend their unbeaten run in Europe when they face Olympiacos at the Camp Nou.
