Barcelona will retain the top spot in the LaLiga standings after Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Girona on Sunday.
Xabi Alonso’s side fell behind when Azzedine Ounahi scored for Girona, marking the hosts’ first goal against Madrid since April 2023.
Real Madrid needed a Kylian Mbappé penalty in the 67th minute to salvage a point. Mbappé’s spot-kick, his 28th goal in 23 games across club and country this season, ensured Los Blancos left Girona with a share of the points.
The draw leaves Real Madrid with 33 points, one behind Barcelona, who strengthened their position at the summit with a 3-1 win over Alaves on Saturday.
