Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has called on state governments, community leaders, and citizens across the country to fully support President Bola Tinubu’s renewed security strategy, insisting that defeating banditry, terrorism, and other violent crimes requires a national collective effort.
Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly, Barau said the President’s recent directives, including increased frontline deployment, expanded recruitment into security agencies, and the activation of forest-guard operations, represent a new phase in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity, but cannot succeed without widespread collaboration.
According to Barau, “Mr. President is doing extremely well. All his efforts should be complemented by all Nigerians, state governments, private organisations, even ordinary citizens.
This is an issue for every Nigerian to admit and confront. With the trend and effort the President is putting in, we shall surmount this problem”, he added.
He urged state governments to invest more in surveillance, intelligence networks, and operational support for security agencies, arguing that insecurity will be defeated faster if every state builds its own early-warning and response systems.
“If states strengthen monitoring of forests and communities within their borders, the military will respond faster. When this is replicated nationwide, the results will come quickly,” he said.
Describing Tinubu as “a leader working daily to secure the country”, Barau cited the President’s decision to shelve his scheduled trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to oversee security operations, a move he said helped facilitate the rescue of abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
He called on Nigerians to remain united, vigilant, and supportive of government efforts, noting that peace and stability are achievable only through shared responsibility.
