Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, on Saturday disagreed with his predecessor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, who recently advocated the use of maximum force against bandits.
Speaking at the presentation of a translated book by the late Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, Sani argued that firearms alone cannot solve insecurity in the North-west.
“Insecurity can’t be resolved solely through the use of firearms. Whoever claims so is only playing politics,” he said.
The governor explained that banditry in the region stems from poverty, unemployment, and rural neglect, unlike the ideology-driven Boko Haram insurgency.
He said the Kaduna Peace Model, which involves community, traditional, and religious leaders, was developed to tackle root causes of insecurity.
“We should not deceive our people by blaming Tinubu or Ribadu. Leaders are elected to protect their people, and it is our responsibility,” he added.
