Nollywood actor Baba Ijesha, whose real name is Olanrewaju Omiyinka, has spoken publicly for the first time since his release from prison, saying that human beings can be “more wicked than venomous snakes.”
The actor made the remarks in a viral music video released months after regaining his freedom from a Lagos State correctional facility.
Baba Ijesha was released in November 2025 after completing a five-year prison sentence following allegations of sexual assault made in 2021 by comedian Princess (Damilola Adekoya).
Actor Claims He Was Framed
In the video, the actor alleged that he was framed in the incident that led to his conviction.
According to him, the situation began on April 21, 2021, when Princess, whom he described as a close friend, invited him to her residence with the promise of food and a movie role.
Baba Ijesha claimed he was told he would be cast in a film but asked to play a different character from his usual roles, which he said made him believe it was an opportunity to advance his career.
He alleged that upon arriving at the house, he met several people and began rehearsing for what he believed was a film production, only to later realise that there was no movie planned.
The actor further stated that the incident eventually led to his arrest and detention, saying the situation resulted from betrayal by people he trusted.
Message to Fans
Baba Ijesha also used the video to caution his fans and the public about trusting friends.
“My trust was betrayed. I ended up in Kirikiri prison because of a woman,” he said in the video while recounting his version of events.
He added that the experience had taught him a painful lesson about trust and warned people to be careful with the company they keep, describing the world as a place where people can be more dangerous than snakes.
The case involving Baba Ijesha had generated widespread reactions across Nigeria’s entertainment industry when it first surfaced in 2021 and remained one of the most widely discussed controversies in Nollywood.
