Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed has vowed to remain loyal to the Labour Party (LP) ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting he will not follow former running mate Peter Obi in leaving the party.
Baba-Ahmed, 56, was the vice-presidential candidate on the LP ticket in 2023, running alongside Obi, who lost to Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Obi later defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition-backed platform aimed at challenging the ruling APC.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday at the LP National Headquarters in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed stressed that he would remain committed to the party that gave him a platform to serve.
He pledged to dedicate himself to helping fix Nigeria’s challenges in 2027, describing the ADC and its members as “disgruntled politicians” and expressing skepticism about their approach and unity.
Baba-Ahmed’s declaration marks a clear contrast with Obi’s defection and signals his intent to strengthen the LP as a credible opposition ahead of the next elections.
