Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has revealed the three artists she considers the most influential in the genre, naming Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, and Rema as her personal “Big 3.”
The singer shared her selection during a recent interview with Hot 97 FM, where she spoke about the artists who, in her view, have made significant contributions to the global growth of Afrobeats.
According to Starr, each of the three musicians represents a distinct force within the genre.
She described Tiwa Savage as a pioneering female figure whose presence helped pave the way for women in Afrobeats. Wizkid, she said, embodies the genre’s international success, while Rema stands out for his creativity and willingness to experiment with new sounds.
“My Afrobeats Big 3 would be Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema. My solid Big 3,” Starr said during the interview.
Her selection differs from the widely recognised Afrobeats “Big 3,” which traditionally includes Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, artists often credited with taking the genre to a global audience.
By choosing Savage and Rema alongside Wizkid, Starr highlighted artists she believes have played distinctive roles in shaping and evolving the sound of Afrobeats.
