Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr has opened up about the strong influence her mother has on her life and career, highlighting the role faith plays in keeping her grounded.
Speaking during a recent interview with Hot 97, the “Comma” hitmaker said her mother consistently reminds her to remain connected to God and trust in His promises for her future.
According to the singer, her mother remains deeply involved in her life and often encourages her to stay focused on her spiritual journey despite the pressures of fame.
She explained that her mother’s primary concern is ensuring that she does not drift away from her faith and continues to believe in the path she feels God has set for her.
The 22-year-old also reflected on her experience relocating to New York City, admitting she was not prepared for the city’s extremely cold winter.
Ayra Starr said she arrived with little warning about the harsh weather and spent much of her early days indoors in an unfurnished apartment. Despite the discomfort, she described the experience as motivating, saying it helped strengthen her drive and determination.
During the interview, the singer also discussed the inspiration behind her track, Where Do We Go From Here. She explained that the song was written as a form of emotional release after dealing with a complicated friendship that followed a repetitive and unhealthy pattern.
The artist described the writing process as a moment where she expressed her feelings openly, noting that she has since moved past the experience.
When asked about her personal relationships, Ayra Starr said she prefers to keep that aspect of her life private. She advised others to maintain discretion about their relationships, particularly when living in the public eye.
The singer said maintaining privacy helps her manage the pressures that come with fame while protecting her personal life from unnecessary attention.
