The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed the decision of Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, to reject the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and align with the APC, describing it as a “generational rebuke” of his father’s political credibility.
In a statement issued on Thursday, spokesman for Lagos APC, Seye Oladejo, said the move speaks louder than any press conference could. “When a man’s own son deserts his political judgment and embraces an alternative path, Nigerians are entitled to question his credibility”, Oladejo said.
The Lagos APC accused Atiku Abubakar of a “restless political odyssey,” marked by serial defections, transactional alliances, and an obsession with the presidency that has outlasted public patience. From the PDP to the AC, back to PDP, and now to the ADC, the party said, Atiku’s politics has been “nomadic ambition in search of a party willing to mortgage its soul”.
The party described Atiku’s son’s alignment with the APC as an endorsement of the ruling party’s governance record and the Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “Abubakar Atiku Abubakar’s decision to join the APC is a clear vote of confidence in our leadership”, Oladejo said.
He further noted that credibility begins at home, arguing that leadership that cannot inspire loyalty within its immediate circle cannot command the trust of a nation of over 200 million people.
The Lagos APC called on Nigerians to recognize the “political handwriting on the wall” and suggested that the era of political tourism and moral inconsistency is losing relevance. “If Atiku’s son has moved on, Nigeria certainly should”, the statement concluded.
