Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed heartfelt sympathy to victims of Tuesday’s fire outbreaks at Afriland Tower on Lagos Island and Mandilas Market, which resulted in loss of lives, destruction of goods, and several injuries.
In a statement on Wednesday, Atiku said his “thoughts and prayers” were with the families and friends mourning their loved ones. He also commiserated with traders whose shops and properties were consumed by the Mandilas Market inferno and adjoining plazas.
“I sympathise with the traders injured and those who lost goods and properties from the second fire that gutted Mandilas Market and adjoining plazas. I wish all the injured, who are receiving treatment at different hospitals, a speedy recovery,” he said.
The former Vice President further extended condolences to the management and staff of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), United Capital, and the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, whose offices were affected by the Afriland Tower fire.
He prayed for the quick recovery of the injured and called on relevant authorities to strengthen fire safety measures in major commercial centres to forestall future occurrences.
