Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has refuted viral reports alleging that he donated a brand-new Toyota SUV to Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, the naval officer who clashed with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over a disputed parcel of land in Abuja.
In a statement released on Thursday through his X handle, Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, described the claim as entirely baseless and concocted.
“The story is entirely fabricated and should be completely disregarded by the public,” he said.
The false claim, which first surfaced on Facebook on Wednesday, suggested that Atiku had rewarded the officer for standing up to Wike.
The clash, which occurred over a disputed parcel of land in Abuja’s Gaduwa District, saw Wike confronting Yerima and his team of armed naval personnel guarding a property reportedly linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo (retd.).
In a video widely circulated online, Wike accused the retired naval chief of unlawfully taking possession of the land a scene that sparked widespread debate over protocol and civility among government officials.
