Ademola Lookman’s turbulent summer transfer saga may be behind him, but questions remain over his long-term future at Atalanta, despite his promising return to the starting lineup.
The Nigerian forward, whose contract runs until June 2027, saw his attempted move to Inter Milan collapse earlier this year after both clubs failed to reach a fee agreement. The fallout led to tension within the club, briefly unsettling Atalanta’s preseason preparations.
Following a period of reintegration, Lookman made his first start under coach Ivan Juric in the weekend’s goalless draw against Lazio, earning praise for his all-round performance and defensive discipline.
“Lookman? Today we put in a very high-level performance; in the second half, he lit up completely,” Juric said after the match, as quoted by Fcinter1908. “He was unlucky with the header that was miraculously saved, but his performance remains top-level.”
Though still regaining full match fitness, the reigning African Footballer of the Year has shown signs of returning to form. His composure and energy will be key as Atalanta aim to rediscover their scoring touch after another goalless Champions League outing against Slavia Prague.
Club sources suggest Atalanta are preparing to revisit Lookman’s contract situation before the end of the year, hoping to reach an amicable resolution that avoids the instability of the past summer.
For both parties, Lookman’s performances over the coming weeks could prove decisive — not only in restoring confidence but also in determining his future in Bergamo.
