President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country will overcome violence and terrorism threatening its stability.
The President, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, pledged that Nigeria would continue to make progress.
“I assure you that we will continue to make progress. Nigeria is determined to be great,” he said.
Tinubu spoke on Saturday at the inauguration of the Gateway International Cargo Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, built by the administration of Dapo Abiodun.
He stated that his administration’s infrastructure development and economic reforms are designed to benefit citizens and drive long-term prosperity.
“Our investment is about our people. The infrastructure underscores our faith in our country, the belief that today’s foundation is for tomorrow’s prosperity,” he said.
The President commended Governor Abiodun for his commitment to the well-being of Ogun State residents and Nigerians at large.
He noted that the airport project includes an independent power supply, reflecting the administration’s investment in energy.
“Development must touch every level. I am particularly pleased with the mobility, the security and the agricultural initiatives being fulfilled today,” Tinubu added.
During the visit, the President also launched 1,000 electric bikes, security vehicles, and tractors.
Tinubu commended Nigerians for their continued support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that ongoing reforms have translated into increased resources for sub-national governments.
He expressed satisfaction with how state governors are utilising resources for development and praised Abiodun for aligning his initiatives with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President described the introduction of electric bikes as a smart response to modern transportation needs, emphasising the importance of embracing technology over fossil fuels.
He also lauded the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, for initiatives aimed at improving ease of doing business and staff welfare.
“ Nigeria will continue to remember you. Your legacies, commitment and patriotism are well appreciated,” he said.
Tinubu also inaugurated a Customs Hub, including barracks, a training college, a warehouse, and a hospital.
Earlier, Governor Abiodun described the President’s visit as historic and symbolic of his commitment to national development.
He praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, including foreign exchange unification, fuel subsidy removal, and public finance restructuring, noting that they have improved investor confidence and attracted foreign investment.
Abiodun also highlighted initiatives such as the Compressed Natural Gas Programme, NELFUND, rail modernisation, and major highway projects as part of efforts to reposition the economy.
Also speaking, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the President’s democratic credentials and reform initiatives.
He urged the decentralisation of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to improve power distribution.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also praised Tinubu’s leadership, noting the progress recorded in Ogun State over the years.
The event was attended by several ministers, governors, and traditional rulers.
