Afrobeats star Asake has emerged as the most-streamed artist on Spotify in Nigeria, according to new data released by the streaming platform.
The figures were published as Spotify commemorated five years of operations in Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana. In a statement marking the milestone, the company credited listeners across the region for driving its growth and shaping music consumption trends.
Asake led a ranking dominated by Nigerian heavyweights, finishing ahead of Wizkid, Seyi Vibez, Burna Boy and Davido.
His song “Remember” ranked as the most-streamed track in Nigeria over the period under review, while “Lonely at the Top” also secured a place among the top five songs.
Spotify revealed that Nigerian users have created more than 25 million playlists in the last five years. The platform added that the average Nigerian listener on its service is approximately 26 years old, underscoring a largely youth-driven audience.
Asake’s streaming dominance reflects the continued global rise of Afrobeats. Known for blending street pop influences with mainstream Afrobeats and dance-oriented rhythms, the singer has built a strong digital presence, with songs frequently gaining traction on TikTok and other social platforms.
He recently became the first African artiste to top Spotify’s global debut chart with his album “Lungu Boy,” further cementing his standing in the international music scene.
The latest rankings highlight both Asake’s sustained popularity at home and the expanding footprint of Nigerian music on global streaming platforms.
