Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Asake has shared his perspective on the dynamics of humility and ego in the entertainment industry, arguing that humility is often undervalued while ego tends to draw more attention from fans.
In a video clip that went viral on TikTok, the award-winning artist explained that audiences are usually more drawn to the end result of an artist’s work than the creative process behind it.
“As an artiste, if you’re humble, they take you for granted. But if you have ego, they feel like you’re not accessible, then they like you more. People would rather see what you’re doing than showing them. They don’t really appreciate it. Do what you need to do and just go,” he said.
According to him, artists who display humility often risk being overlooked, while those who project confidence or ego are perceived as more desirable and less accessible.
Asake further advised creatives to focus on results rather than validation, urging artists to let their work speak for itself instead of seeking approval through behind-the-scenes displays.
The singer, who has dominated charts with multiple hits and bagged international award nominations, continues to spark conversations on the realities of fame and fan perception in today’s fast-paced music industry.
