Nigerian singer Asake has opened up about the hurdles he faced during the early stages of his music career, revealing that his choice to sing predominantly in Yoruba led to rejection by some show promoters.
In a recent interview with Famous TV, the Sungba crooner recounted that his commitment to his language and sound initially limited performance opportunities.
“Looking back now, I’m glad I didn’t change my sound or stop singing in Yoruba despite the rejections I endured,” Asake said.
He attributed his current success to a combination of faith, self-belief, consistency, and perseverance.
“How I got to where I am today is by God’s grace, self-belief, consistency, and endurance. At some point, a lot of people said no to me; they didn’t allow me to perform at shows because I spoke Yoruba. But thank God I didn’t stop, and I kept believing in myself,” he explained.
The singer reflected with pride on his journey, acknowledging the progress he has made and the rewards of staying true to his artistic identity.
“Now, look at where I am today. I am so happy for myself,” Asake added, highlighting the value of resilience in achieving success in the competitive Afrobeats industry.
