Afrobeats star Asake has described 2020 as a defining moment in his life, revealing how a challenging period ultimately shaped his rise in the music industry.
In a recent interview with Korty EO, the singer said the year tested him deeply, leaving him feeling stripped of something he once valued.
According to Asake, the experience felt like a sudden loss, but he later came to see it as part of a bigger plan that prepared him for success. He explained that the same period led to the creation of his breakout line, “Me I no dey cap, me I no dey form,” which helped launch his career.
The artist noted that at the time, he did not fully understand what was happening, but now believes the setback played a crucial role in his development.
Beyond his struggles, Asake also spoke about his long-standing ambition to expand beyond Nigeria and build an international career.
He revealed that even before achieving mainstream success, he had consistently told friends about his plans to relocate abroad, particularly to Los Angeles—in pursuit of greater opportunities.
When he eventually made the move, he said he approached it with a clear mindset, determined to settle in and pursue his dreams without hesitation.
Asake’s reflections highlight the uncertainties many artists face on their journey to success, as well as the resilience required to turn setbacks into stepping stones on the global stage
