Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has described Max Dowman as a “special player” after the teenager made history in the Gunners’ 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Brighton on Wednesday night.
Dowman, aged just 15, became Arsenal’s youngest-ever starter and impressed with a composed display at the Emirates Stadium. Goals from Ethan Nwaneri and Bukayo Saka sealed Arsenal’s place in the next round of the competition.
Speaking after the match, Arteta praised Dowman’s maturity and natural ability:
“For him, everything is natural — it’s the way he plays. That’s the secret: he doesn’t make a big fuss of it. He just does what he does best — play football with a lot of courage and determination. At 15, to show such skill and capacity to run past players at that level is something definitely special.”
Arsenal will return to Premier League action this weekend with a trip to face Burnley.
