Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka will not be fit for their Champions League opener against Athletic Bilbao in Spain.
The winger, who has been sidelined with a hamstring problem since the Gunners’ 5-0 win over Leeds United last month, will not make the trip.
Saka joins a growing injury list that includes Ben White, Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus, leaving Arteta without several key players.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Arteta admitted the situation remains uncertain:
“There’s still quite a lot of things to go through. Very difficult to understand what week he is going to be available. He will most certainly be pushing to be available as soon as possible.”
Arsenal will now have to rely on their new signings and squad depth as they begin their European campaign.
