Liverpool manager Arne Slot has heaped praise on Real Madrid stars Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior despite his team’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Spanish giants in the UEFA Champions League clash at Anfield on Tuesday night.
A second-half strike from Alexis Mac Allister sealed the win for Liverpool against Xabi Alonso’s side, extending the Reds’ impressive European form under Slot.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Dutch coach admitted that Mbappé and Vinícius were nearly impossible to contain over the course of the game.
“You can’t control these two players, neither Mbappé nor Vinícius,” Slot said. “Their best chance was when Vinícius passed to Bellingham. They have very good players across the pitch, and it’s very difficult to completely contain them. We did the best we could with players like Mbappé and Vinícius.”
Liverpool will now turn their attention to domestic action, as they prepare to face Manchester City in what promises to be a high-stakes Premier League encounter this weekend.
