Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army / Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have intensified offensive operations across Taraba State under Operation Lafiya Nakowa, a sustained campaign aimed at clearing out bandits and terrorist elements hiding within the brigade’s area of responsibility.
Acting on credible intelligence about bandits’ movements around Unom, Yongogba, Tornyi, and Mbayongo villages in Takum Local Government Area, troops on Friday, 31 October 2025, launched a robust clearance patrol covering Tor-Tser, Kofar Ahmadu, Tornyi, Unom, Mbayongo, and Yongogba.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the troops successfully cleared the targeted locations, including adjoining settlements and riverine paths often used as escape routes by criminal groups.
During the operation, troops received fresh intelligence at Kofar Ahmadu indicating the presence of bandits near TY Farm in Tati.
The soldiers swiftly reoriented their combat formation through Sabon Gida Tati and made contact with the criminals. Overpowered by the troops’ superior firepower, the bandits fled deeper into the forest.
During the follow-up exploitation, troops discovered and destroyed a major bandits’ camp located at TY Farm, effectively dismantling a key hideout used for staging attacks and evading security forces. A Dane gun and other items were recovered from the site.
Commander of the 6 Brigade / Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their professionalism, rapid response, and gallantry throughout the mission.
He reaffirmed the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Taraba State and urged residents to continue offering timely and credible information to support ongoing operations.
