In a move echoing the United States, Argentina has officially pulled out of the World Health Organization (WHO) but says it will continue addressing global health challenges through regional forums and bilateral partnerships.
Foreign Minister, Santiago Quirno, confirmed on social media that the withdrawal officially takes effect this week, marking one year since the formal notice was submitted. He added, “Argentina will continue to provide international cooperation in health while fully preserving its sovereignty and its capacity to make decisions regarding health policies”.

The decision mirrors actions taken by U.S. President, Donald Trump, who also withdrew from the WHO over objections to what he described as progressive influence in global health policy.
WHO Director-General, Tedros Ghebreyesus, had previously criticised similar US actions, calling the cited reasons for withdrawal “untrue”.
While Argentina emphasises continued cooperation outside the WHO, its departure marks a significant shift in its engagement with global health governance.
