The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a clean sweep in the Niger State Local Government Council elections, winning all 25 chairmanship positions across the state.
The results were confirmed by the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), which described the polls as credible, transparent, and reflective of the electorate’s choice.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Operations, Mohammed Liman, NSIEC announced that collation had been completed in all councils, with Returning Officers declaring winners in line with the state’s Electoral Law and the Commission’s operational guidelines.
“After thorough review, the Commission has approved and ratified the results, confirming the duly elected chairmen and councillors who met all legal requirements,” Liman said.
According to the official list, APC candidates emerged victorious in all 25 Local Government Areas, including Agaie, Bida, Kontagora, Lapai, Bosso, Chanchaga, and Wushishi.
Newly elected chairmen include Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu (Agaie), Usman Mohammed (Bida), Mustapha Jibrin (Chanchaga), Lawal Yusuf (Kontagora) and Mohammed Lokogoma (Wushishi).
The ruling party also recorded wide margins over opposition parties across multiple councils.
In Bosso, APC polled 29,140 votes, far ahead of PDP’s 6,039.
In Gbako, APC scored 32,310, leaving PDP trailing with 7,363.
Suleja saw APC secure 61,877 votes, while SDP managed 1,146.
In Lapai, APC gathered 43,604, compared to SDP’s 2,639 and PDP’s 1,429.
The pattern continued statewide:
Bida: APC 40,868 vs PDP 8,386
Chanchaga: APC 25,340 vs PDP 10,216, SDP 1,137, LP 313
Kontagora: APC 25,154 vs PDP 7,164
Borgu: APC 44,248 vs PDP 3,172
Mariga: APC 25,485 vs PDP 6,662
Other notable margins include Lavun (53,257 vs 1,340 PDP), Mokwa (27,100 vs 11,210 PDP) and Edati (20,414 vs 8,553 PDP).
For councillorship seats, NSIEC ratified results from all 274 wards. The APC won 271 seats, while the PDP secured two seats, one each in Tafa and Rafi LGAs.
Liman congratulated all newly elected officials, urging them to uphold transparency, accountability, and a people-centered approach in governance.
He also praised security agencies, political parties, observers, the media, IPAC, ALGON, and voters for contributing to a peaceful and successful election process.
NSIEC announced that Certificates of Return will be presented to the winners as scheduled, with stakeholders to be informed of the exact date.
