The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent opposition claims predicting an “implosion” within the party ahead of the national convention, describing such speculation as baseless and reflective of the opposition’s own fragmentation.
According to Hon. Seye Oladejo, Lagos APC Spokesman, “Our conventions are platforms for renewal and consolidation, not chaos.
The recently concluded Membership e-Registration exercise demonstrates our internal cohesion and forward-looking organization. Embraced across states and demographics, it has strengthened our database and laid the foundation for a purposeful, well-organized convention.”
While the APC continues to strengthen its structure and vision, the opposition struggles with internal conflicts, defections, and reactive politics. More troubling are reports of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai allegedly intercepting telephone conversations of the National Security Adviser—actions that raise serious legal and national security concerns. Nigerians rightly expect accountability, not excuses.
Similarly, Rotimi Amaechi has been accused of circulating misleading information about the new tax law, sowing confusion rather than promoting understanding of essential reforms. Citizens deserve clarity and responsibility, not distortion and theatrics.
A robust democracy relies on a credible opposition. When the opposition fails to present coherent policies or maintain internal cohesion, it does not just fail to challenge the APC—it undermines the democratic process itself. By contrast, the APC’s vision, organization, and performance ensure it remains ahead in governance and electoral preparedness.
As speculation of crisis swirls elsewhere, the APC consolidates. As rhetoric dominates elsewhere, we deepen our structures. While others predict implosion, the APC charts a path of renewed momentum, unity of purpose, and strategic alignment ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The opposition’s contradictions, once again, are set to be confounded by reality.
