Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have declared full support for President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing overhaul of Nigeria’s national security architecture, describing the protection of citizens’ lives and property as a core responsibility of government.
The governors, under the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), met for two days in Lagos in a strategic session hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Led by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, the Forum issued a communiqué reaffirming confidence in Nigeria’s future as a united and prosperous nation.
Reviewing the security situation nationwide, the governors commended President Tinubu for improved coordination among federal, state and local security structures, as well as the sacrifices of security agencies and community volunteers. They endorsed the President’s security reforms and resolved to strengthen community-based security initiatives, intelligence gathering and conflict-prevention mechanisms, while supporting victims of violence and disasters.
The PGF also assessed economic and social conditions in the country, noting that ongoing reforms must improve citizens’ welfare, protect dignity and expand opportunities. The governors praised Tinubu’s commitment to stabilising the economy under the Renewed Hope Agenda, while acknowledging the temporary hardships faced by Nigerians.
They resolved to scale up interventions in food security, MSME support, youth employment, social protection and targeted relief for low-income households. The Forum also stressed the need for expanded investment in infrastructure, including roads, housing, public transport, water, sanitation, digital connectivity and climate-resilient projects, ensuring inclusion for vulnerable groups.
Commending Lagos State for its leadership in transport and urban development reforms, the governors agreed to deepen inter-state collaboration and peer learning.
The Forum reaffirmed that effective local governance is crucial to delivering development at the grassroots. Governors pledged to improve transparency and accountability in local government administration and expand citizen engagement through town halls and consultations with traditional leaders, civil society, labour and professional groups.
They also reiterated their loyalty to the APC and commitment to strengthening party unity, internal democracy and inclusiveness.
