Senator Ipalibo Banigo, who represents Rivers West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that further strengthens the APC’s presence in the Senate.
The announcement of her defection was made on Tuesday during plenary by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
Addressing Senate correspondents shortly after the session, Senator Banigo explained that her decision was largely influenced by what she described as the “remarkable infrastructural transformation” being driven by the administration of President Bola Tinubu. She noted that several projects currently underway in her senatorial district played a significant role in her decision to align with the ruling party.
Banigo also commended the Federal Government’s economic policies, stating that recent reforms have contributed to stabilising the naira and improving the broader socio-economic outlook for many Nigerians.
Speaking further, the Rivers lawmaker praised President Tinubu for what she described as his fatherly leadership in navigating the political challenges in Rivers State. According to her, the President’s interventions have helped reinforce democratic stability and uphold the rule of law in the state.
She also applauded the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing her as a strong role model whose advocacy for the empowerment of women and girls continues to inspire and uplift many across the country.
