The Nigerian Government and the United States are strengthening security cooperation as part of joint efforts to counter terrorism and ongoing violence across Nigeria, according to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during a televised interview on Wednesday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the partnership reflects shared intelligence, planning, and strategic coordination between both governments aimed at restoring safety and stability.
Morka said President Bola Tinubu is fully engaged in efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and is prepared to pursue all lawful and strategic options necessary to protect civilians.
He addressed public concerns surrounding the presence of foreign military personnel, stressing that the cooperation does not amount to foreign intervention or unilateral action by the United States. According to him, any involvement by U.S. personnel is being carried out with Nigeria’s full consent and active participation.
The APC spokesman explained that decisions guiding the security partnership are jointly made, ensuring that Nigeria retains control over operations carried out within its territory.
He added that the primary objective of the collaboration is to neutralise armed groups responsible for attacks on communities and to prevent further loss of life.
The remarks follow confirmation that the United States recently deployed a small contingent of military personnel to Nigeria as part of expanded security cooperation between the two countries.
