The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has appointed Ntufam Ekum Ojogu as its acting chairman following the impeachment of former chairman Alphonsus Eba, who was removed over allegations of fund misappropriation, high-handedness, and the non-payment of stipends to party officials across chapters and wards.
Ojogu was officially presented to members on Thursday at the APC Secretariat in Calabar, where he pledged to stabilise the party and work collaboratively with key stakeholders to strengthen its grassroots structures.
Expressing gratitude, he said: “First and foremost, I offer profound thanks to Almighty God for His grace in bringing us to this point. I am deeply humbled and honoured to stand before you today as the Acting Chairman of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, Cross River State.
Your solidarity, loyalty, and unwavering support during this transition have not gone unnoticed.
The unity we demonstrate today reflects our shared commitment to the progress of our party and our state. We will work tirelessly to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people.”
Ojogu explained that Eba’s removal followed a vote of no confidence passed by party leaders, describing the decision as a necessary step to restore order, discipline, and accountability within the party.
“I thank every member who stood firmly for due process and party stability. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Chapter Chairmen of the 18 Local Government Areas. Your dedication at the grassroots has kept the party’s flame burning,” he added.
He commended chapter chairmen, ward executives, polling unit coordinators, and volunteers for sustaining the party’s organisational structures, assuring them of an open-door leadership style and constant accessibility.
Reaffirming the party’s loyalty to Governor Bassey Otu, Ojogu urged party members to set aside their differences and unite in support of the administration’s development agenda.
