The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for what it describes as an “unpatriotic” call for foreign intervention in Nigeria’s internal affairs.
In a statement issued by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party condemned PDP National Chairman, Taminu Turaki, who on had urged foreign governments to intervene in Nigeria to prevent what he called “Christian genocide” and to safeguard democracy.
The APC said Turaki’s remarks were reckless and dangerous, accusing him of inviting external powers into Nigeria’s sovereign affairs for political gain.
“For a man declared National Chairman barely 72 hours ago by a faction of his deeply fractured party, Turaki appeared desperate, confused, incoherent, and grossly lacking the stamina and capacity to manage his party’s crisis”, the statement read.
The ruling party argued that instead of seeking foreign intervention, Turaki should be focused on reconciling warring factions within the PDP. It described the appeal as “shameless” and a “threat to national security”, saying it reflected the PDP’s failure to manage its internal problems.
“During the PDP’s 16 years in power, despite its subversion of opposition parties, there was never a call for foreign intervention to resolve internal party crises,” the APC added. “Turaki’s call is not only an admission of the PDP’s incapacity to manage its internal contradictions; it should be regarded as the final certification of the party’s decline”.
The APC also urged the international community to dismiss what it called a “disgraceful and unpatriotic call for external interference,” describing it as a distraction from the PDP’s internal failures.
“The desperation of the PDP and its leaders is now clear,” the statement continued. “Turaki’s call demonstrates how far they are willing to go, even seeking destructive foreign intervention on Nigerian soil to advance their political agenda”.
The party concluded by urging Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying the government remains committed to delivering progress and prosperity across the country.
