The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration of financial mismanagement and insensitivity, warning that further revelations of alleged irregularities could soon emerge.
The allegations follow reports that the Oyo State Government received N30 billion from the Federal Government to assist victims of the January 2024 Bodija Estate explosion in Ibadan, alongside claims by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose that N50 billion was released as intervention funds.
In a statement on Sunday, APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, criticized Governor Makinde for portraying the federal government negatively while allegedly failing to manage relief funds effectively.
“The N50 billion Ibadan explosion relief fund saga exposes a government that thrives on false narratives and propaganda. There are serious questions about fund management and the administration’s sensitivity to the plight of victims,” Sadare said.
The APC also accused the governor of downplaying federal contributions to Oyo State, citing allocations to local governments, donations of vehicles and CNG buses, and other palliative measures. “Instead of acknowledging these efforts, Governor Makinde has consistently criticised the removal of fuel subsidies and the Supreme Court judgment granting local governments full financial autonomy,” the party said.
Further allegations include the alleged unlawful disposal of federal properties and a pending court case against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) related to an exercise book contract scandal in 2019. The APC suggested that these issues reflect systemic governance and accountability concerns within the state administration.
Warning of more disclosures, Sadare claimed that some allies of the governor were beginning to come forward. “Certain associates are reportedly troubled by their conscience and have started engaging relevant authorities. When these revelations emerge, the governor and his inner circle may face serious scrutiny”, he added.
The APC concluded that the party remains committed to exposing financial irregularities in the state and ensuring accountability for public resources.
