The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) wishes to inform the public and all electricity market participants about expected gas supply constraints that will impact several major thermal power generation stations connected to the national grid.
According to a Statement originating from the Management, this situation arises from a formal notification regarding the scheduled maintenance shutdown of a significant gas supply facility from February 12 to 15, 2026 (inclusive).
Full gas supply is anticipated to resume on February 16, 2026. During the maintenance period, the availability of gas to certain power plants dependent on this supply network will be temporarily diminished.
The power stations directly affected will include Egbin, Azura, Sapele, and Transcorp Power Plants. Additionally, NDPHC Sapele, Olorunsogo, and Omotosho Power Plants may experience indirect constraints due to network-wide gas balancing effects.
Consequently, there will be a temporary reduction in the available thermal generation capacity across the national grid. This situation highlights the need for careful system management to ensure grid stability and reliability.
In accordance with its statutory responsibilities, NISO will implement appropriate real-time operational measures to protect the integrity and security of the national grid during the maintenance period.
Should load shedding be necessary, it will be carried out in a structured, transparent, and equitable manner, in close collaboration with Distribution Companies (DisCos). Critical national infrastructure, essential services, and security installations will be given priority.
NISO reassures all stakeholders and electricity consumers that all actions taken during this period will adhere strictly to established operational procedures, grid security requirements, and reliability standards.
The National Control Centre will enhance real-time system monitoring and contingency planning, ensuring fair load allocation based on the available generation capacity.
NISO appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders as the gas supplier undertakes this vital maintenance, which is essential for ensuring the long-term safety, reliability, and sustainability of the upstream gas infrastructure supporting Nigeria’s power sector.
