The Nigeria Police Force has named Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Okon Placid as its new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), following approval by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji RDisu.
The appointment comes amid recent speculation over the status of the police spokesperson’s office.
Unconfirmed reports that circulated on Thursday, March 5, 2026, had claimed that the former police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, had been removed from office, despite the absence of an official statement from the police authorities at the time.

However, in a statement issued on Sunday, the outgoing Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the appointment of DCP Placid, describing him as an experienced officer with a strong background in administration, operations, intelligence, training, and international peacekeeping.
DCP Placid was born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and is from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo and a Master of Arts degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos.
