Nigerian actress Angela Okorie has reportedly been re-arrested at Suleja prison over allegations that she refused to pay the lawyer who secured her bail.
The re-arrest reportedly occurred on Tuesday, shortly after she was granted bail. The development comes hours after actor Stanley Ontop raised concerns on social media about a potential re-arrest.
In a video shared on Instagram, actress Doris Ogala explained that Angela was taken back into custody by an unnamed Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) for allegedly refusing to pay the N5 million fee agreed upon to facilitate her release.
Doris Ogala said, “Angela has been arrested again. When Angela was initially arrested by Mercy, she called a friend or someone from her village to help get a SAN. The SAN charged N5 million to secure her bail. Now, when Angela knew bail was granted, she refused to pay the SAN, even though the money had been deposited.”
Angela Okorie was initially granted bail on Friday following her arrest by actress Mercy Johnson over alleged defamation. She briefly regained her freedom after fulfilling bail conditions before the reported re-arrest.
The situation has sparked discussions on social media, with many questioning the legality and ethics of re-arresting someone over a fee dispute with a lawyer.
