The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has scheduled local government elections for August 29, 2026. The polls will produce chairmen and councillors across the 21 local government areas of the state.
In a statement, ANSIEC Chairman, Hon. Genevieve C. Osakwe, said the move is in line with Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, and Section 23 of the Anambra State Electoral Law, 2024, which empower the commission to issue election notices.
Osakwe urged political parties to begin obtaining nomination forms at the commission’s office along the Enugu–Awka expressway. She added that the election timetable and schedule of activities will be available for collection from Friday, November 28, 2025.
The last council elections were held in 2024, with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) sweeping all 21 chairmanship seats after other political parties withdrew from the race.
