Ahead of the Yuletide season, Ondo’s Amotekun has ramped up security, focusing on borders and boarding schools to curb criminal activity.
The Ondo State Security Network (Amotekun) announced the deployment during a parade of 16 suspects, highlighting joint patrols with other security agencies across the state.
Among those arrested were three individuals for violating the state’s anti-grazing law, ten for theft, and the remaining for kidnapping and vandalism of government property.
Chairman of the commanders of the Amotekun in the South-West, Akogun Adeleye explained that enhanced surveillance of schools became necessary due to nationwide security breaches. “Over the past week, we have visited numerous schools, especially those in border towns and outskirts, and mounted continuous monitoring to ensure the safety of students”, he said.
He added that 24-hour border patrols have been intensified as part of the Ember Month security enhancement, aimed at protecting lives and property.
Speaking on the arrested suspects, Adeleye said, “The 16 individuals include ten who disrupted public order, three kidnappers, and three anti-grazing violators. Operation ‘Le Won Jade,’ covering all 18 Local Government Areas, has driven miscreants, bandits, and kidnappers from our forests, and this effort continues alongside regular city patrols”.
Adeleye also noted that criminal activities in the state have sharply declined, crediting the enforcement of the anti-open-grazing law and effective collaboration among security agencies.
