Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has claimed that his team delivered their strongest performance of the season in their opening-day defeat to Arsenal, despite securing three consecutive wins since then.
The Red Devils began their 2025–26 Premier League campaign with a narrow 1–0 loss to the Gunners at Old Trafford, but Amorim’s side have rebounded impressively. United have recorded successive victories over Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton, a run that has lifted them to fourth place on the league table.
Speaking to the media after United’s triumph over Brighton on Saturday, Amorim reflected on the team’s progression and the quality of their recent displays.
“I think the best game we played this season was against Arsenal, the first one,” he said.
He further compared the Brighton win to their hard-fought victory over Liverpool.
“[But] it was a more complete performance [against Brighton than Liverpool].
“You can say whatever you want about Liverpool, but they didn’t deserve to lose. We deserved to win, but they didn’t deserve to lose.
“I think today [against Brighton], we did a little bit of everything. We had the ball.
“We created chances, we defended high up the pitch and low when necessary. I liked the performance more today than last weekend.”
Amorim also reserved special praise for forward Bryan Mbeumo, who scored twice in the victory and continues to impress following his summer arrival.
“He’s a working machine,” Amorim added. “He’s so good in transitions. He’s improving in the final third.”
