Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has criticised his squad’s overall commitment and tempo following their disappointing 1-0 Premier League loss to Everton on Monday night at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils missed a major opportunity to move into the top-four conversation, instead falling to an Everton side that played with 10 men for over 75 minutes. Midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye received an early red card after a reckless incident involving teammate Michael Keane, yet Manchester United could not capitalise on the numerical advantage.
Despite the favourable circumstances, United were second best for much of the encounter and ultimately conceded the deciding goal when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall struck in the first half to seal a crucial win for the visitors.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Amorim expressed frustration with his team’s energy levels and approach, stressing that Everton showed greater hunger throughout the game—even before the red card.
“They were the better team with 11 players and 10. I felt we were not there with the same intensity. They deserved the win,” the Portuguese manager said.
Amorim added that the dismissal should have pushed United to dominate territory and apply far greater pressure in attack.
“The other team helped us with the sending off. We need to do [more] in every moment. If they have 10 let’s push them to the final third.
“We need to do more.”
The defeat adds pressure on Manchester United ahead of their next Premier League fixture, a challenging away meeting with Crystal Palace on Sunday, as the club continues to seek consistency in the top-flight campaign.
