Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has played down suggestions that his meeting with the club’s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe this week was a crisis meeting.
United have endured a difficult start to the season, collecting only four points from their first four Premier League games and suffering a shock Carabao Cup exit to fourth-tier Grimsby Town.
Amorim has managed just eight wins in 31 league matches since taking charge in November, while the Red Devils finished 15th last season and missed out on Champions League football after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.
Asked about the meeting, Amorim joked, “A new contract,” before clarifying: “No, it is normal things, just to show the support and explaining that it is a long project.”
Despite the poor form, Amorim insists he has been reassured that United remain committed to their long-term rebuild under his leadership.
