Amazon Web Services (AWS) reported on Monday that the widespread outages affecting numerous websites and apps are easing, more than two hours after the disruption began.
The cloud provider, which supports much of the internet, said most affected services are now functioning normally, though some delays may still occur as it works through a backlog of requests.
The outage, which impacted major banks, gaming platforms, and entertainment services, started shortly after 3 a.m. Eastern. AWS reassured users that the underlying issue has been mitigated. “Some requests may be throttled while we work toward full resolution,” the company said.
Hundreds of websites and apps reported disruptions on Monday morning, highlighting the fragility of global technology infrastructure.
Websites, apps, and services affected (per DownDetector) include – Amazon, Venmo, Hulu, McDonald’s, Coinbase, Snapchat, Ring, Roblox, Zoom, Lloyd’s Bank, Bank of Scotland, Signal, Gov.uk, Wordle, Slack, Canva, Fortnite, Tidal, Duolingo, Microsoft 365, Pokémon Go, Strava and WhatsApp.
Despite the outages, Amazon’s share price showed little movement in premarket trading, suggesting investors were largely unfazed.
