Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has attributed his team’s 2–1 victory over Barcelona in Sunday’s LaLiga El Clásico to their solid defensive display and ability to limit the visitors’ chances.
Goals from Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham sealed the win for Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabéu, keeping them top of the LaLiga table.
Speaking after the game, Alonso described the result as “important and deserved,” noting that his side showed strong competitiveness and composure throughout the encounter.
“It is an important, deserved, even short victory,” Alonso told reporters.
“We had chances, the penalty… It gives us the feeling of a competitive team in big games.
It was the tension of an important match and a close result. We didn’t concede too many chances, and I interpret that as normal. We should not overemphasise those tense moments. Everything has happened in the Clásicos, and we have another game on Saturday.”
The win strengthens Madrid’s title push as they continue their impressive run under Alonso.
