Real Madrid head coach, Xabi Alonso, has played down Vinicius Junior’s angry reaction after being substituted during their 2-1 victory over Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday.
Madrid sealed the El Clasico win through goals from Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham, but the focus later shifted to Vinicius, who was visibly upset after being replaced by Rodrygo in the 72nd minute.
The Brazilian forward appeared frustrated, ignoring Alonso on the touchline and later storming down the tunnel before the final whistle.
Reacting to the incident after the match, Alonso said he would address the matter privately but chose to highlight the player’s contribution instead.
“I don’t want to lose focus on what is important,” Alonso told reporters.
“These are things we will talk about. Vini has contributed a lot and had a great game. Within the squad, there are different personalities. For now, we will enjoy the win, and in due course, we will talk in the dressing room.”
The victory keeps Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga standings, extending their unbeaten run in the domestic campaign.
