Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi says Nigeria’s squad is in high spirits ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
Having narrowly missed out on automatic qualification after finishing second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, the three-time African champions now face a challenging route to the global stage, competing against Gabon, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo for a place in the intercontinental playoffs.
Coach Eric Chelle’s side will face Gabon in the semi-final of the playoffs on Thursday, with the winner set to play either Cameroon or DR Congo in the final on Sunday.
Iwobi, who currently plies his trade at Premier League club Fulham, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to progress.
“Giving ourselves another chance to go into the World Cup, the confidence is high,” Iwobi told BBC Sport Africa.
“I’ve been in one [Russia 2018]; I would like to be in one again.”
