Former England captain Alan Shearer has shared his predictions for Matchday 8 of the Premier League, with some intriguing fixtures set to unfold this weekend.
The action will see Arsenal host Crystal Palace, while Manchester United battle Brighton at Old Trafford. Elsewhere, Liverpool will travel to face Brentford, and Chelsea will welcome Sunderland to Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to newsmen, the Premier League legend assessed each fixture and offered his verdicts.
On Chelsea’s impressive start to the season, Shearer said:
“Chelsea vs Sunderland – They’ve had an unbelievable start to the season and are in seventh place. I don’t see that continuing, but they’ll have to enjoy it while it’s there, but I think Chelsea might be too much on Saturday. Prediction – Chelsea win.”
For Manchester United’s clash with Brighton, the former Newcastle United striker expects a tight contest:
“Man Utd vs Brighton – I’m going to go for a draw on this one. It might not be a bad result for both clubs. Prediction – Draw.”
Discussing Liverpool’s visit to the Gtech Community Stadium, Shearer backed the Reds to take all three points:
“Brentford vs Liverpool – I would think Liverpool going there after this week, I think they might actually take the points – as tough as it may be. Prediction – Liverpool win.”
And on Arsenal’s home game against Crystal Palace, he tipped Mikel Arteta’s men to secure a comfortable victory:
“Arsenal vs Crystal Palace – I know they don’t have to travel and it’s in London, but you’d be amazed at how the atmosphere at home can pull you and drag you through. Prediction – Arsenal win.”
