Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has dismantled a suspected burglary network in Uyo, arresting four suspects in coordinated operations that led to the recovery of stolen items, including generator sets, burglary tools, and a locally made firearm.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, who said the arrests were made during separate operations carried out on March 17, 2026.
According to the statement, police operatives acting on credible intelligence launched a targeted raid around Aka Road and surrounding areas at about 3:30 a.m., leading to the arrest of two suspected shop burglars identified as Idiongho Johnny, 29, and Ofonime Jimmy, 30 — both residents of Uyo.
Items recovered from the suspects included a locally fabricated pistol, one live cartridge, several bunches of keys believed to be master keys, an iron cutter, and a mobile phone.
Police said both suspects confessed during interrogation to participating in repeated shop burglary operations within the area.
A follow-up operation, aimed at expanding the investigation and tracking the movement of stolen goods, led to the arrest of two additional suspects identified as Innocent Nnaukwu, 39, and Ali Ibrahim, 24, who were allegedly found in possession of stolen property.
Recovered from them were two generator sets, a welding coil, and a car battery believed to have been taken during previous burglary incidents.
The police said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected criminal syndicate, while efforts are also underway to trace owners of the recovered items.
Baba Mohammed Azare, the Commissioner of Police, commended the operatives for what he described as a professional and intelligence-driven operation, assuring residents that the command remains committed to tackling burglary and other crimes across the state.
