The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, says Nigeria’s public service must fully embrace digital transformation to remain efficient, transparent and sustainable.
Akume stated this on Wednesday in Abuja while delivering remarks at the Paperless Civil Service Gala and Awards Night, urging Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to institutionalise digital processes, safeguard data integrity, invest in capacity building and ensure reforms outlive individual office holders.
Akume stressed the need to embed digital reforms into the structures and culture of the civil service to guarantee continuity and effectiveness, saying “The future of governance lies in systems, not shortcuts”.
He described the transition to paperless operations across the federal civil service as more than a technological upgrade, calling it a fundamental shift in culture, mindset and service delivery.
According to him, digitalisation promotes efficiency, transparency and accountability, and reflects the administration’s commitment to building a modern, responsive and citizen-centred public service.
Akume noted that the initiative aligns with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 2021–2025) and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He commended the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, led by Didi Esther Walson-Jack, and praised award recipients for their leadership and innovation.
The SGF reaffirmed his office’s support for reforms that enhance coordination and efficiency across government, while congratulating all awardees.
