Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade says it is time for Nigeria’s women’s national team to make a global impact beyond Africa.
Under coach Justine Madugu, the Super Falcons remain the most successful team in Africa with 10 WAFCON titles and appearances at every FIFA Women’s World Cup.
However, despite their continental dominance, Ajibade admitted the team now wants to challenge the top teams on the world stage.
“We’re saying: ‘We don’t just want to be African champions anymore. We want to be global contenders.’ We want to make sure that we surpass the level that we hold because we know we have the quality and the talent,” the Paris Saint-Germain winger told FIFA.com.
The Super Falcons sealed their spot at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-1 aggregate win over Benin Republic on Tuesday.
The upcoming WAFCON 2026 will also serve as the qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be hosted by Brazil.
