Hull City defender Semi Ajayi has shared his enthusiasm regarding his comeback to competitive football following a challenging period plagued by physical setbacks. The 32-year-old center-back has endured a frustrating debut campaign with the Tigers after arriving as a free agent last summer, having suffered multiple recurrences of a hamstring ailment. His most recent stint on the sidelines was a result of an injury sustained while representing Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, an issue that kept him out of professional play for approximately eight weeks.
This latest recovery follows an even more taxing period earlier in the season, during which the same muscular problem cost him three months of active duty. However, the experienced international appears to have turned a corner this month, making three appearances for Hull City as he regains his match fitness. His most recent outing occurred last Saturday, where he faced a sentimental challenge against his former employer, West Bromwich Albion.
Despite the defeat in that encounter, Ajayi is optimistic about his physical condition and his ability to contribute to the club’s late-season ambitions. He is now focused on spearheading the Tigers’ pursuit of a coveted spot in the Sky Bet Championship playoffs.
Reflecting on his rehabilitation and his return to the starting eleven, Ajayi commented:
“I am feeling really good. It was my second 90 minutes, so I am getting back into the full swing of things and looking forward to pushing for the rest of the season.”
With the Championship season approaching its business end, Ajayi’s return provides a timely boost to the squad’s defensive depth. The veteran defender remains determined to put his injury woes behind him and play a pivotal role in Hull City’s quest for a return to the top flight.
