Nigeria’s most decorated international, Ahmed Musa, has officially concluded his legendary journey with the Super Eagles after nearly 15 years of service.
The 33-year-old veteran, who currently serves as the General Manager of Kano Pillars, shared the emotional update via his social media accounts on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Musa transitions into a full-time administrative and domestic role, leaving behind a legacy that includes an AFCON title and a national record for appearances.
In a poignant farewell message, Musa reflected on his evolution from a teenage prospect to the team’s ultimate elder statesman:
“I wore this badge with pride for 15 years. From a 17-year-old boy answering every call to becoming the most capped Super Eagle with 111 appearances. AFCON champion. Nigeria’s highest World Cup goalscorer. Captain. Servant. Believer. I gave everything. Thank you Nigeria… my heart will always beat green.”
A Career of Records
Since making his senior debut at age 17 against Madagascar in September 2010, Musa consistently delivered high-impact performances on the global stage:
The Record Holder: With 111 caps, he surpasses legends Vincent Enyeama and Joseph Yobo as the most-capped player in Nigerian history.
World Cup Specialist: He remains Nigeria’s most prolific scorer at the FIFA World Cup, having netted four goals across the 2014 and 2018 editions, including iconic braces against Argentina and Iceland.
Continental Champion: He played a vital role in the squad that secured the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations trophy in South Africa.
While stepping away from the national team, Musa remains active in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Having returned to Kano Pillars in October 2024 for his third stint, he has recently taken on the mantle of General Manager ahead of the 2025–2026 season. This strategic move signals his intent to revitalize domestic football administration while continuing to mentor the next generation of Nigerian talent from the sidelines.
